The Billet Slings Model-S1 slingshot is CNC machined from solid 6082-T651 billet aluminium using state-of-the-art CNC equipment. The result is a lightweight slingshot (weighing in at less than 155 grams) that is ideal for everyday carry by hikers, 4x4 overland travellers, outdoorsmen / women, slingshot target shooters, slingshot hunters and general slingshot enthusiasts. The S1 slingshot is capable of launching 8,9,10 or 11mm steel projectiles at speeds of up to 200-300 feet per second (bandset and projectile dependant) with exceptional downrange accuracy in the hands of a practiced shooter.
Designed by Billet Slings founder, Clive Murphy, the design objective for the S1 was to design an asymmetrical, ambidextrous frame that would suite a fairly wide range of hand sizes and that could be held using either a thumb brace or pinch grip. The goal was to design a frame that would work well for a wide range of shooters, ranging from beginners all the way through to advanced shooters with significant experience.
A fairly wide fork gap and ample fork depth were employed in order to minimize the risk of frame strikes for shooters new to the sport. Having said that, the S1 frame design easily allows advanced shooters to grip the frame high on the forks (regardless of preferred grip style) for increased control over the frame. To this point, the seamless adjustability between a lower grip position for beginners and a high grip position for more advanced shooters is a standout point of this frame.
Based on customer feedback, the S1 frame design seems to have achieved its design objectives. The frame is being shot comfortably and accurately by both male and female shooters with a wide range of hand sizes and experience levels. Customer feedback has been very positive.
When it came to sight design, we once again wanted to cater for a wide range of experience levels and applications with the S1 design. The sight channels, positioned at the outer edges of the fork tips, can be used in two ways. Either with fibre optic cords inserted into the sight channels (which is how we ship all S1 slingshots) or by removing the fibre optic cords and using the sight channels as 'peep sights', in cases where the shooter may not want the fibre optic 'bead' to obscure too much of their sight picture.
We have shot the S1 slingshot with good accuracy, using both sighting methods, out to distances of 40 meters. How you choose to use the sights really comes down to personal preference. Replacement fibre optic sight kits can be purchased from Billet Slings and is easy to install at home by the user, allowing our customers can experiment with which sighting method works best for them.
The design incorporates a pointed tip at the base of the frame that can be used as a Japanese Suntetsu in a last-ditch self-defence situation (not out of the question in our home country of South Africa) or as a window breaker should you need to break a car window to free occupants in the case of a car accident.
The Billet Slings Model-S1 Slingshot is supplied in an IP67 rated waterproof, dustproof, shockproof hard case that features dual latches, a pressure release valve and lock holes should you wish to lock the case. The S1 frame lies in custom cut high density foam within the case in order to ensure maximum protection for the life of the frame. The case also has cut outs that allow the user to carry some projectiles and some spare bendsets as well as the T25 Torx allen wrench required to attach new bands to the frame.
